This is the best book I have read in quite a while. Doug's style of writing is amazing. It held my attention and was truly very basic. It's not your usual ten step guideline or religious jargon. Relationship...that's what it comes down to. With the Father and with each other. Something far too long missing within believers. This book is a "must read" for every Christian.
This is a great book that simplifies the Christian life. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed by what I should be doing/not doing, saying/not saying, etc... It was so refreshing to read a book and be reminded that all I have to do is walk with God and accept His love for me. The message of this book is wonderful. This is a book I will keep forever and read over and over. I also listen to the audio recordings available at timewithdoug.com
It seems like a rather casual way to write a book - three guys sitting in a an old RV and just talking. But it works for them. Rather than "getting religious" they simply shared life, Christian life, in a relaxed way. It seems to flow out of their mutual respect, deep friendship and trust for each other. Obviously they are way past trying to impress their heavenly Father with trumped up holiness or churchiness. It comes across that their relationship with their Lord is a relaxed one - one that comes only from truly knowing Him and knowing how they stand with Him in eternity.
The eight basics taken up are not the only ones they could have discussed, but they are certainly important to living the Christian life in the kingdom of God and living it in security of Father's love. If the first chapter were the only one written, it would probably be worth the price for many people who never come close to understanding and believing simply that Father loves them, and that nothing is going to change that. The book makes it quite plain How they act or what they do will not increase nor undo Father's love. Such important truth! And it just flows out of these conversations.
I think the underlying, implied grace of God may trouble some who read the book. It is a difficult truth to swallow that Father's relationship with His children is based solely on the sacrifice of His son. That comes across and is a thread woven into the thinking presented in the book. Receiving the tremendous love of God and comprehending that our works do not determine Father's love is a great truth that many find difficult to receive.
The chapter on "Walking in Forgiveness" is another one that will help most people able to receive and walk in forgiveness. Most of the world's Christians carry much more unforgiveness than they care to admit.
Another chapter that struck me strongly was Chapter 5 which talks about being "in Christ". Though every believer is "in Christ", it is not an easy concept to get one's mind around. Yet, these brothers manage to handle the subject and bring us to a point of seeing the importance of our being "in Him".
The book is not some great theological treatise and is an easy read. For some, it will be upsetting, and they will trash it. For others that have never been able to walk in these truths, never known the comfort of walking with a loving Father, it will be a life changing read. May the Holy Spirit guide all those with open and needy hearts to receive the great truths that lie in the pages of this book.
Easy to read with simple word illustrations, easily explains these great biblical truths in a way that no scholar can. It's heart felt and caring for your soul.

Great book. I am following along on the website as the Pasley's release the Kingdom IQ study guide. This book was the first of required reading. Fun banter and solid truths.
