Impossible Monsters Kasey Editor Lansdale Books
I first became drawn to this book by the great cover art. I know and love many of the authors. The writers I am being exposed to for the first time are also great which is no surprise. Kasey Lansdale did a great job putting this collection together.Product details

Impossible Monsters Kasey Editor Lansdale Books Reviews
An overall good collection, only one that didn't evoke some strong feeling and one that had me saying "Ewww" out loud several times. Well worth trying out.
In this anthology of atypical horror stories, you won’t find any bare chested werewolves or glittery vampires. For the most part, the monsters here are not found in mainstream horror.
However, although most of the stories were OK, none stood out or rated more than 3 – 4 stars.
I typically buy most of the books I read for my , but fearing a depleted battery on a lengthy trip, I borrowed this one from the library. I'm sure glad I did so as I have no interest in returning to any of the stories, and would not enjoy rereading them.
Sometimes, these theme anthologies just...don't...work.
Given the COST of this very slim volume of stories, someone shoulda made doubly sure all the tales herein were top-notch.
Unfortunately, THIS is one of those times (I paid for a copy, so it is MOST unfortunate in my case). Maybe the writers were rushed by a deadline. Who knows? Even Neil Gaiman contributes a story that is, at best, three and a half to four stars. "Click-Clack the Rattle Bag" is not bad (and, for parents, delightfully twisted) which means it's head and shoulders above the rest of the crowd. But not his best, and if one is a parent, one might see the ending coming.
One of my all-time faves, Bradley Denton, contributes "Blood Moccasins" an EC-style story that actually feels a bit too contrived (unlike "The Adakian Eagle", his last published novella which was great!) and actually seems to peter out, creatively. David Schow 's "Blue Amber" (which leads the collectionaliens and cops) feels like it has been done before. Charlaine Harris offers a familiar trope (werewolves). Neal Barrett gives us rednecks and...something. The stories are fun, but the majority of them just don't feel like something that like the best efforts of any given writer. Joe R. Lansdale, the father of this volume's editor, who can write down and dirty EC comics-style fiction and two-fisted crime fiction that can make ANY writer jealous (check out THE THICKET, one of his best novels, and one of the best opening sentences ---EVER!), contributes "The Case of the Angry Traveler" probably the best story here -- but only 3/12 stars, at that -- featuring underground chases after Lovecraftian type creatures, with Dana Roberts, one of Lansdale's recurring characters, in the driver's seat.
Given the list of contributing writers, this anthology had lots of potential.
If you can't check out a copy from the library, wait for the paperback -- used, if possible.
